The Cox Family

The Cox Family is an American bluegrass family band from Cotton Valley in northwestern Louisiana. The typical sound of the group is created from a blend of country, bluegrass and gospel.

  • Suzanne Cox ( born June 5, 1967) - mandolin, vocals
  • Willard Cox ( born June 9, 1937) - fiddle, vocals
  • Greg Underwood - bass, vocals

History

The family began in 1976, with regular appearances at festive events (on Beyond the City but is already a recording of a gig from 1974 listening to ). Her career received a big boost when they met mid-1990s, Alison Krauss, made the Rounder Records attention to it. A wider audience, she was known as Adam Duritz, lead singer of platinum-selling Counting Crows they got to hear and was so impressed that he asked her to perform as the opening act on their North American tour.

Alison Krauss that produced up to the first albums all the family, even took some of Sidney's songs, such as the title song of her album I've Got That Old Feeling.

The Cox Family played after her debut on Wilcox Records two solo albums on Rounder Records, a: Everybody's Reaching Out for Someone (1993) and Beyond the City ( 1995), which earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album. The album I Know Who Holds Tomorrow, which won the Grammy for Best Country / gospel / bluegrass album in 1997, they recorded together with Alison Krauss. They share with the other musicians on the compilation Amazing Grace another Grammy: A Country Salute to Gospel. In 1996 she went to Asylum Records, which belong to Warner Music Group.

After July 2000, two pieces for the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? the Coen Brothers had helped, she suffered a severe blow by a car accident in which Willard Cox and his wife Marie were seriously injured.
