The Danish Poet - A Love Story is a Norwegian- Canadian animated short film by Torill Kove from the year 2006.
Action
The narrator thought earlier, all life come from outer space and arises purely coincidental. In fact, her parents met after a series of coincidences. It all started at the home of Danish poet Kasper Jørgensen in Copenhagen. The suffering from writer's block and therefore visited the psychiatrist Dr. Morg, who advises him to a holiday in Norway. While researching to Norway Kasper encounters a portrait of the Danish-Norwegian writer and Nobel Prize winner Sigrid Undset. He reads her novel Kristin Lavransdatter, an epic story about a young woman who is promised to a man, against the will of the Father but marries another, and spends her life miserable. Kasper writes Sigrid then a letter with the request to be allowed to visit them for the purpose of inspiration in Norway. She agrees.
He travels to Norway and comes under mudbath at him strange Norwegians. He falls in love with her daughter Ingeborg. However, you can not marry him because she is promised to another, as is the case in Kristin Lavransdatter. At his farewell Ingeborg Kasper goes a strand of hair and promises to grow their hair down to their reunion. Kasper returns to Denmark, without having visited Sigrid Undset. He is depressed and just writes sad poems that no one wants to read, and also Ingeborg is unhappy in her marriage and her hair meter long. When her unloved husband is killed by a cow, Ingeborg is free for Kasper. The letter, which is to tell him this is lost from the postman. Ingeborg's hair grow and she lives alone with her Haarflechterin Veslamei until Sigrid Undset one day die. Ingeborg and Kasper meet at Sigrid's funeral again, fall into each other 's arms and live together from then on. Kasper has his joy of life rediscovered and published a book of poems titled Joy and Happiness.
As Kasper one day stumbles across Ingeborg's hair and his thumb breaks, Ingeborg Veslamei can come to Copenhagen. Veslamei meets the writer Peter, who want to meet in the city of his favorite author Kasper Jørgensen for the purpose of inspiration in the train. Veslamei cuts Ingeborg's hair and falls in love with Peter. Some time later their child comes into the world - the narrator of the film, which now lists the many coincidences that have led to the fact that it exists.
Production
The Danish Poet was published on 15 February 2006. The time of origin of the film was about three years, with director Kove recorded half of the film itself. The film is traditionally hand- drawn: The pencil drawings on paper were scanned and digitally painted. The animations of heaven were drawn by Anne Ashton in oil.

Awards
The Danish Poet won the 2007 Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ". In the 27th Genie Awards Torill Kove, Lise Fearnley and Marcy Page, in 2007 won the Genie for Best animated short film.
