The Darkness (band)

The Darkness is a British rock band from Lowestoft in the English county of Suffolk. The band was founded in 2000 and three years later became known with their debut album Permission to Land.

Style

The clothes of the band based on the Glam Rock. Singer Justin Hawkins comes into spandex suits on with cutouts to the navel. The band's music can be described as a mixture of hard rock and glam rock.

Influences of the band are AC / DC, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. The occurrence and singing behavior of Justin Hawkins is on the one hand to compare with that of Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, his singing reminds the other hand also to Robert Smith of The Cure. Band History

Dan Hawkins formed the band in 2000 with bassist Frankie Poullain, whom he had met in London. As a drummer Ed Graham came, an old school friend of Dan, added from Lowestoft. However, lacked a singer. When Dan Hawkins was then the millennium back in Norfolk, he found his brother Justin before, like this sang and danced to Queens Bohemian Rhapsody - a singer was found.

The debut album Permission to Land was released in July 2003 and displaced Beyonce in the second week at No. 2 on the UK charts. Owes this success to the group, especially the steady tours through the pubs of England. Also they were traveling as the opening act for Def Leppard, Meat Loaf and the Rolling Stones.

At the Brit Awards 2004, she won the Best British Band prices, Best British rock band, and Best Album.

2005 got off Frankie Poullain and was replaced by former roadie Richie Edwards.

On 25 November 2005, the second album One Way Ticket To Hell ... And Back was released. The first single One Way Ticket was released on November 11. With the new album, The Darkness away some of the influences of the first album and went more in the direction of the so-called bombastic rock, the once queen was already attributed.

On October 11, reported in 2006, the English tabloid The Sun that Justin Hawkins left the band due to alcohol and drug problems. The official website of the band already had a new lineup and contained a statement that soon a new band would start under a new name.

14 March 2011 it was announced that the band will record a new album with the original line and will perform at the Download Festival.

Stone Gods

On October 10, 2007, the Classic Rock Magazine published an article about the band Stone Gods, who had played three concerts as opening act Thin Lizzy and Queensryche. It was the former members of The Darkness Justin Hawkins without. Meanwhile, the band has played numerous concerts and released the limited edition single / EP Burn the Witch, and the album Silver Spoons & Broken Bones.

Hot Leg

Justin Hawkins formed his own band under the name Hot Leg, with whom he previously recorded an album entitled Red Light Fever. The music reminds some of them very strongly to the The Darkness. Currently, the band offers on their official website on the song Take take take for free download.
