The Davis Sisters (country band)

The Davis Sisters were an American country duo. The duo is considered the first female formation, which used the close-harmony singing.

Career

The career of the Davis Sisters began in 1949, when Betty Jack Davis and Mary Frances Penick met in high school. Contrary to this ligand might suggest both names were not related. Davis and Penick became friends quickly and were shortly afterwards a musical duo. To be able to call themselves Davis Sisters, Penick took the name " Skeeter Davis ". Beginning of the 1950s both appeared together on radio shows like the Big Barn Frolic in Michigan or Kentucky Mountain Barn Dance. With Roy Hall and his Cohutta Mountain Boys they took as a background choir, their first album. 1953 she received a recording contract with RCA Victor and like her first song became her biggest hit. I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know reached the top of the Hot Country Songs in the same year. The B- side of the single set of country boogie title Rock-a- Bye Boogie, who was a forerunner of the later rockabilly. Similar pieces later appeared with Gotta Git A- Goin ' Christmas Boogie or Fiddle Faddle Boogie.

Unfortunately, the duo was involved in a serious car accident; Betty Jack died there. Skeeter survived and led the duo with Betty's sister Georgie on. However, big hits they had no more. Only for musicologists and rockabilly fans are some of their titles interesting. Beginning of the 1960s broke up the duo. Skeeter Davis then began her solo career, with which they came to much greater prominence.
