The Dovells

The Dovells were an American vocal group of the early 60s.

History

The quintet was founded in 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Only in 1960 they were allowed to audition with a record company and got a record contract. In the summer of 1961 they released their first single, The Bristol Stomp, which was added directly to a million seller.

By 1963, the Dovells were always in the charts. Then Len Barry left the formation to continue to walk on a solo career. When published in 1964 at Parkway Records three singles were unsuccessful, the Dovells changed in the following two years to Swan Records, Jamie Records and MGM Records, but success did not stand, so that the group was renamed in 1968 in The Magistrates. The published under that band name single Here Comes The Judge / Girl was without a sales success. From 1970 plates appeared again under its original name Dovells on different labels. Their final single release was 1974 Dancing In The Street / Back On The Road Again. After the group broke up. 1991 brought Mark Stevens and Jerry Summers together an album for which they re- grossed the old hits of the Dovells.
