The Dresden Dolls is the debut album by American band The Dresden Dolls, and was published on 26 September 2003.

Genesis

The self-titled album was released in 8ft Records. All songs were written by Amanda Palmer. The album was released as a digipack and re-released by the record label - switching to Roadrunner Records in 2004 there.

Music style and influences

The duo, which has the subtitle " Brechtian Punk Cabaret " is stylistically based on the jazz and dance music of the 1920s. The influences are varied, from the analysis of heavy metal and rock music over the cabaret of the Weimar Republic to her parents, who both only applied to the instruments.

Singles and videos

As singles the songs Good Day, Girl Anachronism and Coin- Operated Boy were released, with the latter two also exist music videos that were shot by Michael Pope.

Good Day appeared first as a limited to 500 copies white 7 " vinyl and was distributed by Important Records. Later Amanda Palmer brought the single on their label 8ft Records out again. As a B- side A Night at the Roses is included.

For the Single Girl Anachronism is no paid version, and it was pressed only for promotional purposes and sent.

Coin- Operated Boy was released exclusively in Germany as Maxi and also includes a live version of the song, as well as a cover of Britney Spears hit Baby One More Time. Moreover, also the video to find the song on the Maxi ..

Dresden Dolls Companion

In Dresden Dolls Companion Amanda Palmer published a history of the album and the duo also partly an autobiography. The book also contains lyrics, notes and comments on each song of the album.
