The English Concert

The English Concert was founded in November 1972 by Trevor Pinnock together with several musicians playing on period instruments as a chamber music group, and soon expanded into a chamber orchestra.

His debut concert the ensemble played at the English Bach Festival. 1975 was the first gramophone recording of the Concerti Op 8 No. 1-4 by Antonio Vivaldi. 1978 was signed with Deutsche Grammophon / Archiv Produktion an exclusive contract; the first recording for this label was formed in June of the same year (Johann Sebastian Bach Orchestral Suites ). By 1984 almost all the orchestral works of Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel were recorded for Archiv Produktion DGG, next to works of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Henry Purcell, Antonio Vivaldi, as well as a collector with English Barockconcerti.

Characteristic is the fresh, lively tone that made the ensemble under the direction of Trevor Pinnock world famous. Their repertoire includes the well-known orchestral works and oratorios of the Baroque period, but also works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

2007 Harry Bicket conductor of the ensemble and the native of Erfurt Nadia Zwiener first concertmaster.

Working together with the harpsichordist Laurence Cummings, the oboist Alfredo Bernardini, the violinist Simon Standage and the recorder player Maurice Steger.
