The Eternal Idol is the thirteenth studio album by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath. It was released in November 1987.
Formation
First time, Tony Martin sang on a Black Sabbath album. Ray Gillen left the band shortly after the start of recording sessions at Air Studios in Montserrat with producer Jeff Glixman. So the song just before the end of the recordings of Martin was reproduced, which helped to save the album project. Even otherwise, in the chaotic, often interrupted the recording process worked with other guest musicians and producers, including Bev Bevan for some cymbal overdubs. Instead of the specified Dave Spitz Bob Daisley played bass.
2010, the album was re-released as a double CD. The second disc contained a recording session for the album with Ray Gillen.
Reception
Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic described The Eternal Idol as the " perhaps most underrated work of Black Sabbath and the best without Ozzy Osbourne or Ronnie James Dio at the microphone ." He missed three out of five stars.
