The Five (composers)

The Group of Five or the Mighty Handful (Russian mogutschaja Kutschka, kyrill могучая кучка. ) Was a group of Russian composers of the 19th century: Mily Balakirev, Alexander Borodin, César Cui, Modest Mussorgsky and Nikolai Rimsky -Korsakov. They called themselves the Nova gates.

The composer joined together in 1862 in Saint Petersburg. The eminent art critic Vladimir Stasov acted as her mentor. Their goal was the promotion of a national Russian music in the successor Mikhail Glinka. The Group of Five sat down with it from other Russian composers from the stronger were based on Western European models.
