The French Union of Modern Artists

The Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM ) was founded in 1929 in France and until 1958 active avant-garde association of architects and designers.

In addition to the textile artist Hélène Henry, in whose apartment ( 7 Quai des Grands Augustins ) the Union was founded, were among the founding members who had resigned because of fundamental disagreements from the Société des artistes Décorateurs (SAD), the architect Francis Jourdain ( 1876-1958 ), Robert Mallet -Stevens (1886-1945) and René Herbst (1891-1982) and the interior designer Charlotte Perriand ( 1903-1999 ). A short time later included performances by Pierre Chareau (1883-1950), Louis Sognot (1892-1969), Charlotte Alix, Jean Burkhalter, Jean Prouvé (1901-1984), Jean Puiforcat (1897-1945) and Alberto Sartoris (1901 - 1998) at the Artists' Association.

The first UAM exhibition was held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris) in 1930.
