Band History

The history of the Futureheads begins in Barry Hyde's garage where the guys fighting against the cold, plans for the future. As a band, they change then into the house of the youth project of Sunderland, which young people trying rid of the road. In December 2000 they have their first appearance in the Ashbrooke Cricket Club, which lasts just seven minutes in spite of four songs. They make a demo, sell it in indie record stores and are known by word of mouth.

When they go on a European tour with the band Milky Wimpshake, jumps Barry Hyde's younger brother Dave as a drummer, because Pete Brewis is too busy as a singer with his band Electronic Eye Machine ( and would later enter in Field Music ). It creates new songs, a process in which the whole band is involved. After the tour, they bring out their own single and will soon be taken off the indie label Fantastic Plastic under contract, in which they release two singles. Followed by performances in Newcastle and London; they switch to 679 Recordings and take their debut album with producer Andy Gill ( Gang Of Four) on.

The recording of this album should have lasted only five weeks, according to the New Musical Express. The first single Skip to the End will be released on May 15. News and Tributes followed on 13 June 2006, the second single Worry About It Later appears on 14 August 2006.

On November 13, the band announced that they will leave 679 Recordings, since its contract would expire with this album and they are not satisfied by the label with the marketing in the UK and Europe. They appear happy about this decision, as it will bring them more freedom as a band and they want to look for a cheaper offer out.

Style

The promotional company Dustbowl sounds locates the style "somewhere between exposed Post-Punk-/New Wave roots, a marked turn for melody and the hustle and bustle of the digital age: opening into powerful, polyphonic vocal phrases, crashing beats and splintering guitars ". As a music-historical comparisons XTC, Devo and Gang Of Four are often chosen, current comparisons are made with Bloc Party, Maxïmo Park and Franz Ferdinand.
