Band History

The Horrors have their origin in the early 2000s in Southend, when Rhys ( Spider ) Webb discovered his passion for records and the laying on. During excursions to London and the surrounding area of Southend he learned Faris Badwan and Tomethy Furse know that he heard similar 1960s garage rock. In 2005 they finally established with Joshua Hayward ( Joshua Third ) and Joeseph Spurgeon ( Coffin Joe ) a band which they called The Horrors. Their first recordings were two cover versions, the one The Witch by The Sonics, on the other Jack the Ripper by Screaming Lord Sutch, which later appeared on her debut album.

By decoupling Sheena Is a Parasite The Horrors first gained attention in the UK. The accompanying music video was filmed under the direction of Chris Cunningham, ending a long hiatus. He had heard the song for the first time at MySpace and had claims to be pretty obsessed with it. The Oscar -nominated Samantha Morton plays in the music video a woman all the time swings like a madman 's head back and forth while spewing their guts. The clip was not shown on MTV UK. The reason for this was the use of stroboscopic flashes, which can cause epileptic seizures and not, as the New Musical Express erroneously reported the bloody topic. Chris Cunningham, however, did not change the video, because he believed that doing so would expose his work. On the American TV channels MTV2, however, Sheena Is a Parasite could be sent. Due to the extreme representation Samantha Morton as Sheena The Horrors gained popularity in the U.S. and went along with Mumm- Ra, The View and The Automatic at the NME Awards Indie Rock Tour, which brought them additional attention.

After their debut album Strange House was released, the band went on a world tour to promote it to. First, The Horrors wanted as the opening act for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club perform that part of the world tour in the U.S., which had to be canceled due to lack of resources but, instead, they were then in June on tour in the USA, but this time as a headliner. They had a number of festival appearances in 2007, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival, the Carling Weekend ( on the Radio 1/NME stage ), various Scandinavian festivals, the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan, and at the Splendour in the Grass Festival in Australia; the set list for several of the performances in the summer contained a cover version of No Love Lost by Joy Division. In addition, The Horrors appeared in the famous English series The Mighty Boosh, under the pseudonym The Black Tubes ', where she worked with one of the two main characters ( Vince Noir, played by Noel Fielding ) Arctic Monkeys supported as such.
