The Naked and Famous

The Naked and Famous is a New Zealand electro-pop band from Auckland.

Band History

Singer Alisa Xayalith and musician and singer Thom Powers and Aaron Short met in 2006 at the Music and Audio Institute in Auckland. Xayalith and Powers broke off her studies and joined under the name of The Naked and Famous together. They produced the same year as a duo two EPs. She also appeared in New York in the United States during the CMJ Music Marathon. In this time they have already been supported by the audio engineering students Short. For their live performances, they found the beginning of 2009 with bassist David Beadle and drummer Jesse Wood, two other musicians who went to the same high school as Powers and short, so that the band now consists of five members.

Your immediate breakthrough had the New Zealanders in 2010 with the single Young Blood. She got an instant No. 1 on the New Zealand charts and reached platinum status (15,000 units sold). They also got the APRA Silver Scroll, the New Zealand songwriter award for the song. The three months later released debut album Passive Me, Aggressive You also reached the top of the album charts and was certified gold.

In early 2011 there were the first publications and appearances in the UK. From the BBC they were added to the list Sound of 2011, the most promising newcomer in 2011. In Germany Youngblood was known among other things, by the trailer with which the music channel VIVA campaigned for its transmitter restructuring on 1 January 2011. Debut single and album were released in March and in Europe. Also in March, the band performed for the first time in Germany ( Cologne, Munich, Berlin and Hamburg). There was a festival appearance at Rock am Ring in June and the second tour of Germany in September. For the film "The Art of FLIGHT", a snowboard movie by Travis Rice, were the soundtrack two singles, Young Blood and No Way used.

On March 18, 2013, the band released on its website a video of a live recording at The Warfield in San Francisco, entitled " One Temporary Escape".

The end of April, the band gathered back in the studio to complete work on her second studio album. In May, the band announced new tour dates.
