The Newz is the 21st studio album by the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth. It was published on 31 March 2008 on the German label Edel AG. Since this is the first studio album in nearly a decade, is often spoken of a comeback album.

History

After 1998, the album was released Boogaloo, died during the tour on 30 April 1999 drummer and founding member Darrell Sweet at the age of 51 years before a concert of a heart attack. He was replaced by Pete Agnew's son Lee. It still was very quiet around the band. Only three live albums released in the next few years ( Homecoming 2002 Alive & Kicking 2003 and Live in Brazil 2007), on new studio material, fans waited in vain. The album was the first album that was released by the record company Edel AG. The last studio album the band released on SPV, some other publications on Eagle Records. Also for producer Yann Roullier it was a premiere, as the previous album was produced by Mike Ching. The occasion for the release of the album was the 40th anniversary of the band. The recordings for this were completed in December 2007.

Content and melody of the songs

It contains soulful songs like Gloria, Dying Breed or Enough Love and hard rock songs like Liar, Keep on Traveling and The Gathering.Laut Dan McCafferty it comes in Warning to reality shows on television and in the ballad Gloria to criminal youth based examples from the life old friend of the band. The song Liar is a heavy metal - oriented song, which is directed against George W. Bush and his failure prophesied. The Gathering is a long and gloomy title against war and genocide. The album was presented as part of a world tour live. Tour start was in Sweden on 25 January 2008.
