The Old Mill

The Old Mill is an American animated short film directed by Wilfred Jackson and Graham Heid from the year 1937.

Action

A spider slowly spinning its web, is not far from an old, dilapidated mill near a small pond in the dusk. On a water wheel inside the mill hatches a bird and being fed by his partner, mice are preparing for the night, a Turteltaubenpärchen sitting in the window, and an owl sleeps. The bats under the roof wake up yawning and fly into the night. On the pond in front of the mill, close the water lilies, frogs gather for evening concert, and fireflies to rise.

The frogs suddenly jump into the pond, when announcing a thunderstorm. It starts to rain and storm, part of the mill roof is covered. In the mill, the owl is shaken, looking hastily protection against the penetrating rain. The bird sees its nest in danger, when the fixed rope with a water wheel suddenly begins to turn. Since the nest was built in exactly one Radzahnvertiefung, threatened with the loss of three bird's eggs, but fortunately just missing the tooth for the nest cavity. It dawns. The bats return to the mill back, hanging under the roof and fall asleep. The Eagle Owl looks for a new place to sleep. The mice calm down. The eggs three little baby birds are hatched, which are cared for by their parents. In the morning light shimmers that destroyed spider web.

Production

The Old Mill was released as part of Disney's beloved film series Silly Symphonies on 5 November 1937. It was the first Disney animated film, which was recorded using a multiplane camera.

Awards

The Old Mill won the 1938 Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ".
