Band History

The P.O.X. was the singer and guitarist Beaker Pox and drummer Slin Pox ( Nils Enghusen ) founded in 1982 as a two-man combo and was among the first wave of psychobilly bands. 1983 met the guitarist and songwriter Carl Pox do so, and the band had adopted the later stem formation. In Germany The P.O.X. was the first psychobilly band ever. 1984 came to a record deal " so dark it's " with the label Madness Records ( Hamburg) and thus to the first publication of a phonogram German psychobilly band, the EP.

International concerts and other record releases followed. In 1986 the band split up officially after a European tour. In the following years were The P.O.X. in the cast Beaker Pox, Pox Carl and Jake Pox on some international psychobilly festivals, in 1991, the band broke then final. 2008 decided Beaker and Carl Pox to revive the band again and celebrated a comeback on the Psychomania Rumble Festival in Potsdam.

In September 2012, released a new album entitled " Insanity is no Disgrace ".

Importance for the early psychobilly scene

The P.O.X. played a few exceptions, without the usual in the psychobilly scene double bass and replaced them by e- bass and let the bass away completely. With the introduction of a highly distorted rhythm guitar brought The POX another 1984 in the genre yet unusual style element. In conjunction with atypical also distorted singing the characteristic POX sound that clearly demarcated from the traditional double bass -heavy sound psychobilly bands revealed. From 1985, used The P.O.X. also samplers and electronic sound generators, which in turn represented an innovation in the scene. The P.O.X. worked with producer Yak Bondy the sample-based intros for the Voodoo Power demos and the later studio production. The arrangements of the songs often leave a clear dividing line to the blues scheme used predominantly in the early psychobilly recognize; an example, the song " It's so dark" is mentioned, the more like New Wave or earlier gothic rock composed in the style of Bauhaus and is arranged, ie not a classic " old school" psychobilly. As often is the fun aspect in the lyrics and the stage show at the forefront in today's psychobilly, make The POX out that psychobilly is the expression of the dark side of man.

The stage shows are enriched for visual support of music and text with morbid props, such as animal blood or real skeletons, but also with transvestism elements à la Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The P.O.X. is now regarded as a band of the first hour, which was instrumental in the opening of Psycho Billy for influences from other genres.

Concerts

The first concert by The P.O.X. took place in June 1983 in the Freiherr- vom- Stein-Schule in Hannover, followed by 127 more performances until 1986. A selection of large psychobilly festival, where The POX occurred, illustrates the importance in the international scene.
