The Peppermint Rainbow

The Peppermint Rainbow ( New York Times to 1968 ) was an American band from Baltimore, which was active in the late 1960s and the genres of psychedelic rock and Bubblegum is attributed. When her best-known work applies the title " Will You Be Staying After Sunday".

Band History

The band formed in 1967 in Baltimore, Maryland, under the name New York Times. Already establishing time she was in the cast, which remained until the dissolution three years later.

The New York Times played after its founding concerts in the northeastern United States. They were discovered by Cass Elliot and committed by Decca Records after Elliott had seen the band, as they played a medley of songs by The Mamas and the Papas.

After the signing of the band name was changed to The Peppermint Rainbow (English for The Peppermint Rainbow). Produced the group on Decca by Paul Leka, who had previously written the hit " Green Tambourine " The Lemon Pipers for. Peppermint Rainbows first single "Walking in Different Circles / Pink Lemonade " did not reach the charts.

The second single " Will You Be Staying After Sunday / If We Can Make It To Monday" but the former song written by Leka and Al Kasha, 1969 reached number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 After this success Peppermint Rainbow went with Sly & The Family Stone, The Fifth Dimension, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap and Tiny Tim on tour. Their third single "Do not Wake Me Up In The Morning, Michael" still appeared in 1969 and placed on rank 54 of the charts .. The LP brought out by the previous successes in the same year " Will You Be Staying After Sunday" missed the Top 100 of the album charts with space 106 scarce.

The band broke up in 1970 after their album became a commercial failure, the band members were burnt back from the tour and had married singer Bonnie Lamdin.
