The Searchers (band)

The Searchers are a British rock group that was quite successful, especially in the 1960s and had several hits. Their best-known titles were Needles and Pins, Sugar and Spice, Sweets for My Sweet, Love Potion No.. 9 and When You Walk in the Room. The group originated as the Beatles from Liverpool and the music direction of the Mersey Beat was attributed.

History

The Searchers were founded in 1960 in Liverpool. The original band consisted of John McNally, Mike Pender (born Michael John Prendergast ), Tony Jackson and Norman McGarry. The latter, however, was replaced shortly afterwards by Chris Curtis. The group took its name from the eponymous Western The Searchers with John Wayne.

How many beat groups in the early 1960s led the career of the Searchers 1962. For a few months in Hamburg's famous Star Club, where they performed every evening for an hour

The fact that cover versions of their greatest hits again reached the hit parade, led to the Searchers in the general music memory came back and give them a little comeback was brought, which represented mainly in appearances at oldies shows. From the band whose frontman Frank Allen ( since August 1964 in the band) is, in 1986, Mike Pender 's Searchers had split off.

The Searchers still give about 250 concerts a year and guesting every year several weeks in New Zealand, Australia and Canada. 2010 concerts were held in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the Philippines.

In January 2010, after their Australian tour, left the drummer Eddie Rothe family leave the group. For him, Scott Ottaway will follow.
