The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage ( February 1974 ) Peter Hammills third solo album. As on the previous album Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night Hammill took on some of the pieces alone in his private studio Sofasound; the rest was created with the help of his former Van der Graaf Generator colleagues, including the epic A Louse Is Not a Home, which he had originally written in 1972 for this band and has been adopted in their live repertoire after its reformation in 1974.

On the song Red Shift also played the guitarist Randy California of the American band Spirit.
