Development

Artist Matt Groening got the idea for the Simpsons in the lobby of the office of James L. Brooks. He had Groening in 1985 asked him to present one of his ideas to create it into a series of animated short films. Groening decided initially to present him his comic strip Life in Hell. But when he learned that he would lose the rights to this, he decided to get and designed his own version of a dysfunctional family. So he drew the main characters within 15 minutes and called it after his own family members. Bart Simpson was his older brother Mark Groening modeled, but with a different name, which was an anagram of " brat ". The scripts and storyboards were mainly created by Groening. The characters were still very roughly drawn, because Groening animators sketches were in the hope this would improve. However, it pausten from merely making the simple look of the characters in the short films created. The animation produced the company Klasky Csupo; Wesley Archer, David Silverman and Bill Kopp were the animators of the first season. After this only Archer and Silverman were the authors. Colorist Gyorgyi Peluce was the person who decided to color the characters yellow.

The original speaker, the synchronized the characters in the short films did so well later in the half-hour series. Dan Castellaneta dubbed the voices of Homer Simpson, Abraham Simpson and Krusty the Clown. Homer's voice sounds in the short films differently than in most episodes of the later series. She was doing a eingenaue imitation of the actor Walter Matthau, while robust and humorous acts later what the figure is a greater range of emotions. Castellaneta was part of the cast of The Tracey Ullman Show and had already performed together with his wife Deb Lacusta multiple synchronizations. Since speakers were needed for the shorts, asked the producers Castellaneta and Julie Kavner to talk to Homer and Marge to hire more actors instead. Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith synchronized Bart Simpson and Lisa Simpson. The recordings of the short films were noisy Cartwright often been "primitive"; the dialogue was recorded on a portable tape recorder in an improvised studio, which consisted of the rooms of the video technician above the tribune of The Tracey Ullman Show. While most of the characters have in the short films a similar personality as compared to the later episodes, Lisa has changed greatly since it is similar to Bart and later intelligent than he in the short films. However, Homer proves subsequently Punching Bag as almost family tyrant, ordering around and margin.

The short films were shown in the first three seasons of The Tracey Ullman Show in it. During its fourth and final season was the first season of the half-hour series The Simpsons already on the air. In the first two seasons of the short films they were usually divided into three or four parts; in the third season they were mostly a single part. In Germany the short films were broadcast for the first time in 1992 on the private channels RTL, while Norbert Gastell as Homer, Elisabeth Volkmann margin, Sandra Schwittau as Bart, Sabine Bohlmann as Lisa, Walter Reichelt as Abraham and Hans -Rainer Müller as Krusty synchronized. Like the original speaker they attributed this later on in the half-hour episodes.
