The Society of the Friends of Peasants

Bond even Nernes Selskab (Danish for "Company of the Bauer Friends " ), short peasant friends, was a political party in Denmark the 19th century.

The company was founded on 5 May 1846 by the two levels of Deputies Johan Christian Drewsen and Balthasar Christensen was at the request of the teacher Gleerup, chairman of the Holbæk Office Landkommunalforening. More men of the first hour were Orla Lehmann and Anton Frederik Tscherning.

The aim of the farmer 's friends was on the living conditions of the rural population " to acquire comprehensive and accurate information " and " to work for the emancipation of the peasantry and equality with the other strata of society ." Other program requirements were to improve public education, universal military service, freedom of trade, the improvement of the situation of small farmers, agricultural workers and the replacement of interest peasantry by private land ownership of the farmers.

The company was divided into regional and district associations. The first board was elected for three years.

The farmer friends quickly gained considerable spread and grew stronger. Already in mid- 1847 they had over 5,500 members, later this number had risen to over 10,000. In the election for the Constituent Assembly Reich (The grundlovgivende Rigsforsamling ) after the March Revolution of 1848, the farmer friends have argued for, against opposition from the conservative højre more rights in the Basic Law of Denmark to the Parliament and to expand the circle of the electorate. Then the farmer friends established as a party in the Reichstag. However, they suffered a great deal due to the Danish constitutional struggles from the mid- 1850s.

From December 2, 1859 to February 24, 1860 presented the Bauer Friends Rotwitt the government. Important reforms sought the farmer friends have been 1860/61 realized with the law for the betterment of tenant farmers under the National Liberal prime DG Monrad.

The Society of Friends Bauer worked until the 1860s and was never formally dissolved.
