The Style Council

The Style Council was founded in 1983, British band originally consisted of guitarist and vocalist Paul Weller and Mick Talbot keyboardist. Pretty soon the drummer Steve White ( musical companion of Paul Weller even today ) and singer Dee C. Lee ( ex-wife of Paul Weller ) were added. For live performances, the group was expanded to include other musicians: in the first place, these were bassist Camelle Hinds, percussionist Steve Sidelnyk and Helen Turner on keyboards.

After the release of four studio albums ( 1984-1988, the first release from 1983 is only a single compilation ), a live album and a compilation in 1989, dissolved the band in 1990 officially. Paul Weller launched a successful solo career.

Paul Weller formed the band at the peak of the success of The Jam, as he was dissatisfied with their musical direction. He wanted to incorporate into his music more elements of soul, R & B and jazz, whose performance he did not trust the punk -oriented band members of The Jam.

The mid-eighties was the group in the UK some top 10 hits land, who were advancing to some extent in the German charts, namely Speak Like a Child (1983, 4th in GB), Long Hot Summer (1983, 3rd place), My Ever Changing Moods (1984, 5th place), You're the Best Thing (1984, No. 5 ) Shout to the Top (1984, 7th place), Walls Come Tumbling Down (1985, 6th place) and It Did not Matter (1987, No. 9 ). The first two studio albums Cafe Bleu (1984, 2nd place in the UK) and Our Favourite Shop (1985, 1st place) were not only successful in the charts, but were also highly praised by critics. The subsequent albums The Cost of Loving (1987, 2nd place in the UK) and in particular Confessions of a Pop Group (1988, No. 15 ) could - especially abroad - not quite match this commercial success, but were also high quality.

After 1990, a fifth album ( Modernism: A New Decade ) full - for that time - had been rejected quite progressive house music from the record company Polydor and the contract was terminated by the label, Paul Weller and Mick Talbot separated more or less forcibly. Nevertheless followed by other publications, such as 1993 an album with so far unreleased material ( Here's Some That Got Away ) and 1997 a second live album. 1998 came out a 5 - CD box set which, alongside its old hits also contained the previously " lost " fifth studio album.
