Cha no aji ( jp.茶 の 味, dt The taste of the tea ) is a feature film with komödischen, dramatic and surreal elements of the Japanese director and screenwriter Katsuhito Ishii from the year 2004.

Content

The film tells of the lives of the Haruno family of five living in rural Tochigi prefecture north of Tokyo. Hajime, a reserved teenager with a penchant for Go, struggling with his Puberbät and to win the favor of his new classmate Aoi. Meanwhile, little sister Sachiko 's worried about the oversized copy of itself, which it seems to follow everywhere. Yoshiko, the mother of two, working at home as animator of anime and draws inspiration from the eccentric, energetic grandfather, who has also previously practiced for it. Nobuo Haruno, head of the family, usually works late at night as a psychotherapist, with his experiences with patients often bring him in embarrassment. Uncle Ayano is at the Harunos to visit, to relax after a separation from his wife of his profession and the big city. Thus, the film tells the story of each protagonist.

Towards the end of the film the grandfather dies and leaves each of the family members a drawing pad with a personal entertainment, consisting of hand-painted Einzenlbildern. Hajime comes his love a little closer and Sachiko is finally freed from her huge ego; the lives of the others takes its usual course.
