The Time is the debut album of the same group The Time.

In April 1981, Prince formed the band The Time of parts of the cast of Flyte Time, a funk band from Minneapolis. Thanks to its previous commercial solo success, he was able to a contractual agreement with his record company Warner Music Group negotiate, which allowed him to publish several side projects (partly under other names ). The Time is the first and so far the best known side project of Prince.

Prince is a songwriter and producer solely responsible for the musical and lyrical happening on the album The Time. Mostly there is the album of material recorded Prince at his home in Lake Riley in Chanhassen, Minneapolis. Although the band occupation specified in the credits of the plate and Prince is mentioned in a single word, is considered to ensure that Prince produced this album alone.
