Biography

"The Tornadoes " had the first instrumental surf hit in the U.S. in 1962 with Bustin Surfboards, published on " Aertaun Records " and were also the first surf - rock band with USA -wide radio airtime. ( The song Bustin Surfboards begins with an ocean wave that can be heard throughout the entire song and gives the impression on the beach to be. ) With a reverb unit " homegrown ", the classic Fender Reverb there was at this time still not managed the " Tornadoes " to meet the later typical sound of the surf until then burgeoning genre. Gold Mine, " the bible of the record collector " on the plate ". Bustin Surfboards is the rarest of holy grails for hodaddies and surf bunnies alike ... surf music at its earliest and coolest " The "The Tornadoes " remained in the following years a popular band in the California surf scene.

The eponymous album Bustin Surfboards was published in 1963, but failed to connect with the debut success. The song Shootin ' Beavers was banned from the radio stations because of the suggestive title. After the success of the British band The Tornados Telstar with the single (first No. 1 hit a British band in the U.S.) the band changed their name shortly in "The Hollywood Tornadoes ".

After the initial success with Bustin Surfboards, The Gremmie, Shootin ' Beavers and Moondawg there were no more hits more, although the band one of the most influential albums of the surf -rock had published. Between 1962 and 1964 the band played concerts among others with the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean and the Surfaris.

End of the 60s the " Tornadoes " broke up and the band members devoted themselves to other careers. 1993 published " Sundazed Records " in New York, the 1963 album on CD. In the same year, all founding members came together to give in Huntington Beach with Dick Dale, Jan & Dean, the Surfaris and the Kingsmen a big reunion concert.

With the success of Bustin ' Surfboards on the 1994 Pulp Fiction soundtrack and the re- grown interest in the band the " Tornadoes " again began to appear regularly in the original line.

1998 published the " Tornadoes " the album Bustin Surfboards '98 at " Garland Records ". 1999 were included in the Surf Music Hall of Fame. To date, four members play 60s Instrumentation, Gerald Sanders, Norm Sanders, Jesse Sanders and Leonard Delaney.
