The Vagabond ( Original title: The Vagabond ) is an American comedy film directed by Charles Chaplin from the year 1916.

Action

Charlie Chaplin is a street musician. He plays his violin behind a pub. Before the pub suddenly emerges a band that makes it competitive. However, Charlie plays his violin unimpressed with his hat and collects the money of successful pubs guests, but this to the annoyance of the orchestra conductor who finds himself deprived of his reward. It begins an excited chase and Charlie flees from the city.

With his violin he comes to a gypsy caravan, before a girl washes laundry. She was kidnapped by gypsies and falls in love with Charlie, who plays her a song. However, the gypsy chief separates the couple and followed Charlie. Charlie succeeds eventually turn the entire band of gypsies from a tree hiding and to free the girl. Together they flee on a gypsy caravan.

Charlie washes the girl and prepares breakfast, while the girl goes to get water. There, she meets an artist who paints The picture is in an exhibition on the success and the family leads to track down the kidnapped girl. The family brings the girl with Charlie again. But the girl does not want to live without Charlie, their savior. She returns and the two are reunited.
