The World Tonight (song)

April 17, 1997 (U.S.) July 7, 1997 (UK)

The World Tonight (English for the world tonight ) is a song by British pop musician Paul McCartney, released in 1997 on his tenth solo album Flaming Pie. It was also the only international single from the album and also appeared as 1997 in various publications.

History

The World Tonight was in its basic form in 1995, as McCartney was vacationing in the United States, written and composed. A revision that made the song a folk song to a rock tracks, followed the advice of McCartney's then wife Linda in the first sessions for the album Flaming Pie with Jeff Lynne.

The song was released as a single in each case depending on the country with differently shaped B- sides. Both weaker tracks on the album, outtakes and experimental, usually over long compilations from demo recordings, interviews, live performances and other outtakes that were named Oobu Joobu provided (a reference to McCartney's eponymous radio show ), were used.

Geoff Wonfor produced a 1997 documentary film called In The World Tonight, which he also directed. It is about the creation and the work on the album Flaming Pie, with the title of the film at The World Tonight to allude. In the publication, in addition to the main film a music video for the song (see below) is included.

Style

The song has a consistently influenced by classic rock music sound that is amplified especially with the frequent use of electric guitars. In addition to this feature The World Tonight has a double vocal track ( similar to the from Come Together ), with this one rather sung and contains more spoken and is only found in the verses of McCartney alone. Together with the female vocal accompaniment in the chorus of the song is thus recorded very dense and creates a wall of sound. Unusually for the otherwise very rocky character of the piece is about a 15 -second psychedelic cutscene in the late middle of the song. For some nonsensical text that supports the allusion to the days of the Beatles, McCartney said:

"The lyrics were just gathering thoughts. Like ' I go back so far, I'm in front of me' - I do not know where did came from, but if I'd been writing with John [ Lennon ] he would have gone 'OK, did leave one in; we do not know What It Means but we do know What It Means. ' "

" The song text consists only of ideas thrown together. Such as ' I go back so far, I'm in front of me' - I do not know where that comes from, but if I had written it with John [ Lennon ], he would have said, OK, let there; we do not know what it means, but know what it means. ' "

Music Video

After publishing his former intent, rather intimate, as elaborate and expensive music videos as background music of his compositions, McCartney also shot a video for this song. There are several issues that differ greatly from one another.

In addition to the version from the movie In The World Tonight, in the McCartney sitting on the beach and comes with a radio recorder through a nighttime pedestrian zone, is in the other widespread variant mainly Paul McCartney seen with his wife Linda, wearing the striking casual holiday clothing. An attempt is there mainly to accompany the dominant rhythmic song by corresponding body movements. In addition to the occurrence of these two people certain objects have an unusually high incidence: a relatively important role plays such a big yellow umbrella. In addition to this often comes the Boom already shown in the other video version, which is placed in a plurality of cutouts on McCartney's shoulders for use.
