The World Turned Upside Down

The World Turned Upside Down is an English ballad. There are supplies different versions.

History

The first time was used the ballad as a protest against the policies of Oliver Cromwell at Christmas. Cromwell had banned traditional English Christmas carols.

In the American Revolutionary War in 1781 had to surrender to the American forces, a British army under Lord Cornwallis at the Battle of Yorktown. According to legend, the drummers and pipers should have played the song at the march out of the entrenchments of Yorktown.
