As part of its commitment to the Make-A -Wish Foundation met Hulk Hogan in 1992 in England to a boy who was suffering from cancer. The boy should sit at the evening show at Wembley Stadium in the vicinity of the ring. But when the seat was empty, asked Hogan after what had happened. The officials informed him that the child had died before the start of the match. Along with Jimmy Hart, formerly of the vocal group The Gentry's, they sat down together and wrote the song Hulk -A- Maniacs in Heaven. Overall, there were eventually about ten to eleven songs.

The recordings were made in the then Morrisound Recording Studios in Tampa, Florida. Except Hulk Hogan were Jimmy Hart and J. J. Maguire involved in the recording. Hogan's wife Linda Bollea participated in the background vocals and also had some solo passages. The recordings were first performed with a drum machine. Hulk Hogan himself sang and played the bass one in some places. Next to him also sang Jimmy Hart and J. J. Maguire, who is also still responsible for the remaining instruments.

The album was released for the U.S. market from the hip- hop label Select Records in 1995 under the title Hulk Rules. The European version was given the title American Made and released in 1994. In the European version, some songs were renamed and placed in a different order. Likewise, decreed the album through a different cover.

According to Hulk Hogan all proceeds of the album went to the boy, for whom he played the song Hulk -A- Maniacs written in Heaven family, since his family 's hospital bills could not pay.

Style of music and texts

The album makes use of some modern trends in music. It contains many elements of hip-hop, for example Hogan chant and parts of the underlying beats, funk, rock, gospel and pop, without that you can assign the album as a whole a certain genre. Most of the texts of the album are very self-centered and based on the CatchPhrases that Hogan had used in his wrestling performances, such as " You gotta train, say your prayers, eat your vitamins too" in the song I Want to Be a Hulkamaniac.

Reception

Hulk Rules was generally not considered a good album. Rather, it draws a certain entertainment value from the fact that you can take the album hardly serious. The album is rather aimed at a young target group and tries to capitalize on the popularity of Hulk Hogan. For striking are the anti-drug statements and action statements that Hogan tries mitzugeben the children. However, it abolished the album in 1995 ranked # 12 of the "Top Kid Audio" Billboard charts to get.
