The Zoological Record

Zoological Record and Zoological Record Archive is a database for zoology, which currently contains over three million records. These are distributed to journal articles, books, conference proceedings and electronic sources from the period from 1864 to today. In the database (almost) all newly released publications from the field of zoology are included. They can be searched by taxa, evolution, ethology, ecology, genetics, biochemistry, geological age of fossil taxa and many other topics.

History

Zoological Record began as a printed publication in 1864 as' The Record of Zoological Literature " and was issued by the Zoological Society of London. In 1870 the name was changed to "The Zoological Record ". Each year, a tape was released, containing the latest literature. Were recorded and the newly established taxa. Since the report in 1959 (published in 1962 ) was divided according to the literature zoological fields or systematic units in 20 sections.

From reporting year 1969 ( published in 1972 ) was issued, the number of BIOSIS, which is owned by Thomson Scientific, a division of The Thomson Corporation. Since 1985, the revisions were also available on CD (collectively 1978-1984 ). Another update was released in 1993 ( period 1985-1992 ).

Since 2007, the Zoological Record from 1874 to 2007 is completely available online. The digitized data from 1864 to 1977 are considered " Zoological Record Archive ", while the digital already published volumes are referred to only in 1978 as " Zoological Record ". The software platform is provided by the company Wolter Kluwer / Ovid. Zoological Record and Zoological Record Archive is currently the most important (and actually only ) database, which allows a comprehensive online literature research in the field of zoology. The German Research Foundation has acquired a national license. Zoological Record (1978 -present) and Zoological Record Archive ( 1864-1977 ) is, therefore, since the end of April in 2007 in Germany at many German universities and research institutes as well as for individuals freely available online.
