Thea Hochleitner

Dorothea " Thea " high Leitner ( * July 10, 1925 in Bad Gastein, † 11 May, 2012 Kufstein) was an Austrian alpine skier. She celebrated in the 1950s, numerous victories in international races, was six times Austrian Champion and won the bronze medal in the giant slalom at the Olympic Winter Games 1956.

Career

High Leitner began early with the skiing and achieved some success at youth level. At the beginning of the 1950s she managed the connection to the Austrian top. In 1951, she won the downhill of the international winter sports week in Bad Gastein, 1952 she won the giant slalom of Zell am See and the High King and was accepted into the National team of the Austrian Ski Federation.

The first major victory of her career celebrated high Leitner 1953 in the departure of the Arlberg - Kandahar at St. Anton, also she succeeded with the sixth slalom rank nor the third place in the combination. The next winter she took two fourth places in the downhill and combination of the Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel, and participated in the 1954 World Cup in Åre. There, however, they had no success and was their only race, the exit, do not stop. At the Austrian Championships 1954 in her hometown of Bad Gastein, she won the title in slalom, giant slalom and combined.

In winter 1954/55 high Leitner won the Hahnenkamm combined and finished third in the downhill. Another victory in slalom she celebrated the Harriman Cup at Sun Valley, downhill and combined it confirms the existence of second place. At the Olympic Winter Games 1956 in Cortina d' Ampezzo, the now 30 - year-old won behind her teammate Josefa Frandl and the German champion Ossi Reichert the bronze medal in the giant slalom, which counted as a World Championship medal. With the seventh place in the downhill and slalom at the twelfth she missed another medal just barely in the combination.

In the season 1956/57, Salzburg was the downhill in Crans -Montana and the slalom, the departure and the combination on Etna in Sicily. Second places she reached in slalom in Kitzbuehel and the giant slalom SDS- race of Grindelwald and in Navacerrada. In the winter of 1957/58 they played their last race. Although she failed to win more races, but reached in the slalom in Garmisch- Partenkirchen second place and finished third in the departure of Grindelwald and the giant slalom of Seefeld. In its " home World Cup " in 1958 but remained in ninth place in the giant slalom and rank 20 in the downhill behind their expectations. After the season high Leitner finished her playing career at the age of 32 years. After that, she worked for many years as an employee of the ski company Kneissl.
