Theater Lübeck
The Theater Lübeck (formerly stages of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck or popularly known short city theater) is today gGmbH from the theater of Lübeck, a company of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck operated, and is one of the great theater in Schleswig -Holstein.
Building
The theater was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style in 1908 instead of an earlier building dating from 1859, the so-called casino theater, at Beckergrube 10-14 Old Town of Lübeck with donations of patron Emil Possehl by the Dresden architect Martin Duelfer as well as its local site manager Max Baudrexel. The reliefs in the main cornice of the sandstone facade is a work of the sculptor Georg Roemer. The midfield is Apollo and the nine muses represent each side comedy and tragedy. The supporting the pediment group of caryatids and atlases is a work of the Hamburg Bauplastikers Karl Weinberger. In the 1990s it was extensively renovated.

History
The bourgeois interest in drama and opera awoke in Lübeck was only in the wake of the Enlightenment. The first opera was performed on 2 June 1746 in the home of master carpenter Schröder corner of King Street / Wahmstraße. The predecessor of today's theater of 1752 and the ratio of the ensemble to the urban upper middle class in the 19th century is described in detail by Thomas Mann in his Buddenbrooks and Ludwig Ewers in his grandfather town.
Theater
The offer originally included all divisions. After setting of the ballet, it offers in Great House ( Opera House ), chamber and games on the Studio stage ( since the season 2007/ 2008 Young under the name Studio operates ) musical theater, straight theater and concerts of the Lübeck Philharmonic. Here Hermann Abendroth, Wilhelm Furtwängler and Christoph von Dohnányi began their careers. Henry Vahl, Horst Frank and Joachim Hermann Luger belonged to his ensemble.
In cooperation with the Musikhochschule Lübeck is since 2007 an international opera Elite Studio at the theater, will be integrated into the game for one time young soloists alongside studies into playing mode.
Directors were after the end of World War II Frederick Siems (1945-1947), Hans students (1947-1951), Christian Mettin (1951-1959), Arno Wüstenhöfer (1959-1964), Walter Heidrich (1964-1968), Karl Vibach ( 1968-1978), Hans Thoenies (1978-1991), Dietrich von Oertzen (1991-2000) and Marc Adam (2000-2007 ). From 2007 until the season 2013/14 the house was run by a board of directors made up of Christian Schwandt (Managing theater director ), Roman Brogli - Sacher ( opera and musical director ) and Pit Holzwarth ( Acting Director). From the season 2013/14 Dr. Catherine Kost- Tolmein opera director and Ryusuke Numajiri is general music director of the house.
50 percent of the shares of the Theater Lübeck GmbH keeps the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, 12,5 percent of the Duchy of Lauenburg and the district of North West Mecklenburg and the merchants of Lübeck and the society of the friends of the theater eV Lübeck.
The DVD edition of a new production of Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Theater Lübeck was awarded the ECHO Klassik 2012 as the DVD music production of the year.
