Theater Regensburg

The Theater Regensburg (city theater) at the Bismarck Platz 7 is the municipal theater in Regensburg.

History

It was built in 1804 at the instigation of the Elector, Archbishop Carl Theodor von Dalberg and Reichserzkanzler to build a new public theater and society building, designed by Emanuel Herigoyen. Earlier, there were predecessors such as the theater Ballhaus ( 1760-1804 ). The construction was financed as a public company. The theater was also encouraged by the House of Thurn and Taxis. The first director was for 20 years Ignaz Walter ( 1755-1822 ). 1812 was the theater as Royal National Theatre over in Bavarian state ownership. The first building was destroyed by a fire in 1849.

The present building was built in 1852 following the plans of Emanuel Herigoyen from thyme and taxi between Domain and Building Officer Carl Victor germ. On October 12, 1852 the building was re-opened with a performance of Giacomo Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots under the name City Theatre. But in municipal property, the theater was not until 1859. 1898, a first modernization of the theater, she was supported by Albert von Thurn und Taxis, he put his free Oberbaurat Max Schultze available. In the 1950s and 1960s, a demolition and construction of the building was discussed, but not implemented for lack of funds. End of the 1990s there was a comprehensive renovation. Since 1999, the theater is run as an independent municipal enterprises. Today, there's also the stage locations in the velodrome, on Haidplatz and in the tower theater. In summer plays are performed in the courtyard of the Thon - Dittmer -Palais or on a Danube occasionally. At the end of Season 12/ 13 is a performance took place on the Valhalla.
