Théâtre du Nouveau Monde

The Théâtre du Nouveau Monde ( TNM; "Theater of the New World " ) is a theater in Montreal. It is located at the 84, Rue Sainte -Catherine Ouest in the middle of the Quartier des Spectacles, near the Place des Arts cultural center.

It was founded in 1951 by a group of theater actors, including Jean Gascon, Georges Groulx and Jean -Louis Roux. Well-known directors and actors, such as Michel Tremblay, Gabriel Charpentier, Monique Mercure and Geneviève Bujold, the TNM made ​​widely known.

Initially, the theater still had no building of its own. It played in the Salle du Gesù (up to 1958), at the Orpheum (up to 1966) and at Place des Arts. 1972 acquired the TNM a building that had previously been used by the Gayety Theatre and the Théâtre de la Comédie- Canadienne, and plays worked exclusively there.
