Thebe (moon)

Thebe ( Jupiter XIV) is one of the inner moons of Jupiter.
Discovery
Thebe was discovered on 5 March 1979 by the astronomer Stephen P. Synnott in images of the space probe Voyager 1 and initially received the provisional designation S/1979 J 2 In 1983, it was officially named after the nymph Thebe, from Greek mythology, , the daughter of the river god Asopus.
Construction
The surface is very dark. The photographs of the space probes show at least three giant impact crater. Thebe has a synchronous rotation.
