Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall is a live album by Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane that was recorded in 1957 but not published until 2005.

The recordings come from a benefit concert from November 29, 1957 at the " Thanksgiving Jazz", which produced Kenneth Lee Karpe for the Morningside Community Center in Harlem. In addition to Monk and Coltrane among others were Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Sonny Rollins and Chet Baker with Zoot Sims on.

The recordings from Voice of America documentieren two sets of Monk's quartet with Coltrane during the concert, an early set with the pieces 1-5 and a bit more relaxed with the pieces set 6-9, but they are not completely preserved.

The tapes were archived in the Library of Congress, where they were kept until its rediscovery in 2005. The recordings has producer Michael Cuscuna with the Son Monk, Thelonious Sphere Monk, Jr., restored.

The recordings were praised by critics. Newsweek magazine called the shots, the "musical equivalent of the discovery of Mount Everest " and Amazon called it the "ultimate definition of classical music ." Shortly after the release came the album on the first sales rank by Amazon.com.

Through the album, the scope of the published documents of cooperation between Monk and Coltrane has increased considerably. In addition to this album just a compilation The Complete 1957 Riverside Recordings and recording Discovery is known, but it has been recorded with amateur equipment at a reunion concert of Monk and Coltrane at the Five Spot Cafe 1958, probably from Coltrane 's first wife.
