Theobald Ziegler

Theobald Ziegler ( * February 9, 1846 in Göppingen (Württemberg ), † September 1, 1918 Sierentz in Alsace ) was a German philosopher.

Life

Ziegler studied theology and philosophy at the Protestant Foundation in Tubingen, during his studies he became a member of the Tübingen Royal Society Roigel. After studying Ziegler was first Repetent at the Gymnasium in Heilbronn, in the same position he has also taught at the Protestant Foundation in Tübingen. After another high school teacher years in Winterthur and Baden- Baden he was vice-principal of the 1882 Protestant school in Strasbourg. In 1884 he qualified as a professor of philosophy, and since 1886 to 1911 he was a full professor of philosophy at the University of Strasbourg. The retirement years he spent in Frankfurt am Main. He died (according to the obituary of A. Buchenau, see below) " in a field hospital in Alsace ".

Ziegler represented with his works, the scholarship of the nineteenth century. At the same time he has become the authentic chroniclers with the book " The intellectual and social currents of the 19th century" ( 1899). In addition to his historiographical work, he was active in the sense of the contemporary liberal- democratic aspirations in the social and religious issues of the day.
