Theodor Ackermann

Theodor Ackermann ( * September 17, 1825 in Wismar, † November 22, 1896 in Halle ( Saale ) Complete name: Hans Konrad Karl Theodor Ackermann, also: Konrad Theodor Ackermann ) was a German pathologist.

Life

Ackermann studied medicine at the universities of Greifswald, Würzburg, Prague and Rostock. Since 1847 he was a member of the Corps Borussia Greifswald.

Ackermann's initial interest was in Pharmacology: In 1852 he received his doctorate in Rostock. 1856 and his habilitation in 1859, he was appointed associate professor. A professor at the University of Dorpat refused Ackermann. He dealt increasingly with problems in pathology and in 1865 appointed a full professor at a newly established Institute of Pathological Anatomy and Experimental Pathology, University of Rostock.

1873 moved Theodor Ackermann as Director of the Institute of Pathology of the University of Halle, whose leadership held to date Karl Julius Vogel. Ackermann's successors in Rostock was Emil Ponfick. 1880, a new building of the Institute of Pathology was opened in Halle. From 1881 Theodor Ackermann was a member of the Leopoldina. From 1884-1885 Ackermann was rector of the university. In 1895 he resigned for health reasons. His successor was Carl Joseph Eberth.
