Theodor Pröpper

Theodor Pröpper ( born May 26, 1896 in Balve; † July 31, 1979 ) was a German composer, church musician and folk poet.

Life

Pröpper visited in Balve the elementary school and then made ​​a painter teaching. From 1912 to 1914 he studied at the School of Church Music in Paderborn. In 1914 he began work as organist at the parish church of St. Blaise in Balve. In 1921 he was among the founders of the Balver Home Guard and in the same year of the founding members of the Sauerland home state. 1922, the first cultural performances in the Balver Cave of him and Franz Hoffmeister organized.

Pröpper interrupted his organist activity in Balve for further studies at the State Academy of Music in Munich. There he put his degree from at the Reger student Joseph Haas. In addition to this training, he was private composition pupil of Gottfried Rudinger. After graduating in 1925 he took his church musician Office in Balve again.

Pröpper was a member of the 1930-1934 municipal council of the city, but was deposed by the Nazis. On February 7, 1946 Pröpper was elected Deputy Mayor Balver.

In 1949 Pröpper one of the founders of the Community Balver cave games. 1953 appointed him Archbishop of Paderborn and later Cardinal Dr. Lorenz Jaeger for church music director. In 1961 he was appointed to the Kumtor Gregorius Order on the occasion of the anniversary celebration of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome. His hometown named him in 1964 as an honorary citizen of the city. In 1966, the Federal Cross of Merit he was awarded First Class and 1974 the Orlando di Lasso medal. Pröpper was buried in the cemetery in Balve.

Theodor Pröpper is the father of the theologian Thomas Pröpper.
