Theodor Valentin Volkmar

Theodor Valentin Volkmar (also Volckmar and Volckmer ) ( born November 23, 1781 Frankenberg ( Eder); † February 8, 1847 in Marburg) was a German lawyer and mayor and the first mayor of the city of Marburg.

Life

Volkmar was first lawyer in Frankenberg on the Eder. In the time of the Kingdom of Westphalia, he was mayor of the city and the canton Frankenberg; immediately after the end of the Kingdom in 1813, he served as a temporary mayor of the city. In the reconstructed Electorate of Hesse Volkmar in Frankenberg, worked from 1817 in Marburg as Regierungsprokurator or as a Supreme Court lawyer.

From 1833 to 1835 he was honorary mayor and thus mayor of Marburg. With the entry into force of the Kurhessische Municipal Code of 1835 the Marburg mayor received the title of Lord Mayor. Volkmar was elected as the first in this office and held it until 1846.

Volkmar has been incorporated in the year 1812 in the Masonic Lodge Marburg Marc Aurel at blazing star. In 1834 he was appointed " for services to the welfare of the city as mayor ," an honorary citizen of Marburg.
