Théodore Claude Henri, vicomte Hersart de la Villemarqué

Théodore Claude Henri de La Hersart Villemarqué (* July 7, 1815 in Quimperlé, Finistère department, † December 8, 1895 at Schloss Keransker at Quimperlé ) was a French language and classics scholars.

Hersart de La Villemarqué was a corresponding member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts where he was proposed by Jacob Grimm and since 1858 a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres. Since 1851 He also gave Jean -François Le Dictionnaire français - breton Gonidecs (1847 ) with a history of the Breton language out.

His published under the title Barzaz - Breiz collection of Breton folk songs was transferred by Moritz Hartmann and Ludwig Pfau together into German ( Cologne 1858). The two translators had visited him in 1852 in Brittany. The existence of the collection has documented in the report on this trip Moritz Hartmann.
