Thergothon

Thergothon was a short-lived but influential Funeral Doom band from Turku, Finland. With their demo recording Fhtagn Yog- Sothoth Nagh (1991) and her only album Stream from the Heavens (1994 ) it is considered a pioneer of subgenres.

History

The band was founded in 1990 by Niko Skorpio, Jori Sjöroos and Mikko Ruotsalainen as a Death Metal band, but soon transformed into a doom metal band. In early 1991 we took Sami Kaveri added as a second guitarist. A later recorded first demo - tape dismissed the band and undertook in November 1991 a new attempt, which was then published under the title Fhtagn - Yog- Sothoth Nagh in an edition of 600 pieces and has been licensed in the United States and Poland. In spring 1992, the band played two shows in or near Turku, where she played among others an extremely slowed version of the play in League with Satan by Venom. The band did not feel these concerts but as an appropriate presentation of studio material.

In the summer of 1992, the preparations for the debut album began. Sami Kaveri left the band at this time and the band concentrated on the role as a studio band, they neither played live nor do they rehearsed it. This concentration of roles and persons, the rollers gradually broke up and the members of the band swap instruments and experimented with new. After the band had reached an agreement with the Italian label Obscure Plasma Records over the release of the debut album, the band started in autumn 1992 with the recordings to Stream from the Heavens; two of the six songs contained therein were re-recordings of songs of the demo recording Fhtagn - Yog- Sothoth Nagh. After completion of the recordings and the selection of the cover for the debut, the band members decided in spring 1993 to dissolve the band. The publication of Stream from the Heavens retreated still down to 1994, the album sold several thousand copies worldwide.

Niko Sirkiä and Jori Sjöroos founded in Connection This Empty Flow, Niko Sirkiä is to the present day continues to musically active as Niko Skorpio.

Style and reception

The music was very slow with very deep guttural vocals, using heavy guitar riffs, very low tuned guitars and with little lead guitar melodies. In addition to the Death Metal band integrated influences from styles such as gothic rock, Ambient or progressive rock.

In 2010, under the title Rising of Yog- Sothoth appeared a Thergothon tribute album with contributions from the likes of Worship, Evoken and Asunder.
