Thiasus

The term Thiasos ( θίασος ancient Greek ) refers to the ancient Greek and Roman religions, the association of persons for the worship of a god. Mostly it refers to a religious association. Especially from Hellenistic and Roman imperial period have survived on this subject several inscriptions. Thiasos next collegium and other terms was one of several possible names for such clubs. In pre-Hellenistic times Thiasos has mostly to do with the cult of the god Dionysus and similar gods. It is unclear whether these associations were only short-term or were long-term institutions. In a figurative sense, the retinue of a god is called Thiasos.
