Thietmar, Margrave of Meissen

Thietmar I. (c. 920, † 10 May to 14 July 978, according to other sources † 3 August after 979) was from 944 Graf Schwabengau, from 965 Margrave of Nordmark, from about 970 Count in Gau Serimunt and from 976 Margrave of Meissen and Merseburg.

Life

Thietmar was the son of Count Christian, brother of Archbishop Gero of Cologne and his mother Hitta nephew of Margrave Gero I.. Upon the death of his uncle Thietmar I. came to power and dignities, because he inherited a large part of its marks, in particular the Hardagau, Swabia and Nordthüringgau and Hassegau.

He married Suanhilde (* 945/955; † November 26, 1014 ), the daughter of Hermann Billungs from the family of Bill Unger. This marriage came from Margrave Gero II.

Thietmar was buried in the monastery to Nienburg.

After Thietmar death Suanhilde married before the year 1000 Ekkehard I of Meissen.
