Thijs Berman

Thijs Berman ( born September 26, 1957 in Coevorden ) is a Dutch politician ( PvdA).

Life

Berman grew up in the province of Groningen. After studying acting in Maastricht, he turned to psychology and earned a bachelor's degree in 1983 at the University of Utrecht in 1987 and a master's degree at the University of Amsterdam. After that, he was a correspondent in Paris and Moscow for the Dutch Radio 1 and Radio Wereldomroep, as well as for the Dagblad and Elsevier. He presented many radio and television programs, especially for the transmitter IKON. Since 2004, he sits in the European Parliament. For the 2009 European elections, he was elected top candidate of his party. Berman was also election observers in Ukraine in 2004 and Ethiopia in 2010. As MEP Berman is Chairman of the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan and a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairs, the Development Committee and the Subcommittee on Human Rights
