Thijs Libregts

Thijs Libregts ( born January 4, 1941 in Rotterdam ) is a former Dutch football player and football coach.

Career as a player

Libregts first stop was as a professional Excelsior Rotterdam, where he played from 1958 to 1962. He then moved to the larger Rotterdam club Feyenoord, where he remained until 1968. Finally, he returned to his original club Excelsior, where he played until 1972 and then finished his career.

Career as a coach

Libregts first coach station was Excelsior Rotterdam, where he coached from 1975 to 1980. He then moved to PSV Eindhoven, which he supervised until the 1982/83 season. He then moved to Feyenoord, where he was in season 1983/84 league and cup. In November 1984 he moved to Greece for Aris Salonika, where he remained until 1986. His next club was in season 1986/87 PAOK Salonika, where he remained only until December 1987. After a brief stopover at Olympiakos Piraeus in 1988, he returned to the Netherlands and took over the Dutch national team, he oversaw from 1988 to 1989. With this team, he was unbeaten qualifying for the 1990 World Cup in Italy. In early 1990, however, he was succeeded by Leo Beenhakker, who then coached the team well in the finals.

Since he had made ​​a name for PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece, he came back to Greece. From 1991-1994 he was the coach at Iraklis Saloniki and 1994-1995 coach of Olympiakos Piraeus. After he was released in Piraeus, his path led to the " Super Eagles " to Nigeria.

From August 1998 to October 1999 he worked with the national team of Nigeria. After he was 2 years without a club, he took over in October 2001, Grazer AK, where he supervised until August 2002 and resulted in a Cup win, and to win in the Supercup. In August, he was replaced by Walter Schachner. Since then, he has cared for no more team.
