Thil-Manneville

Thil- Manneville is a commune with 545 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Seine- Maritime in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the canton of Bacqueville -en -Caux and the Local Government Association Saâne et Vienne ..

Geography

Thil- Manneville is located in the Pays de Caux, 11 kilometers southwest of Dieppe and 6 kilometers north of the cantonal capital of Bacqueville -en- Caux, between the neighboring communities Gueures the northwest, Ambrumesnil in the Northeast and Herman Ville in the south. The Vienne, a tributary of the Saâne flows west of the town center by the municipality. The hamlet Manneville belongs to the municipality.

History

The local name portion of Thil is derived from the Latin word for Tilia " linden tree". Le Thil was first mentioned in 1240 as Tylia documented. The parish Thil- Manneville was from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution (1789-1799) the monastery Mortemer in Lyons- la -Forêt. Secular owner of the place was the family Morte Mart.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Sulpice stands on the banks of the Vienne. An original church was built in the 13th century. The present building was erected on the same site in the 16th century. It consists almost entirely of sandstone, the walls of the choir also tufa stones are incorporated as they are found on the banks of Saâne and Scie.
