Thin-le-Moutier

Thin -le- Moutier is a commune with 561 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the Ardennes department in the Champagne- Ardenne region; it belongs to the district of Charleville -Mézières and Canton Signy L'Abbaye.

History

The settlement of the town dates back to Roman times. During the First World War the city was occupied on August 27, 1914 by German troops. South of the town, in the village of La Fosse a l' Eau, fierce battles took place in the sequence.

Personalities

In Thin -le- Moutier lived and died in the revolution politician Jean -Nicolas Pache ( 1746-1823 ). His house has been preserved and is one of the attractions for the visitor.

In the vicinity of the location of the French officer and adventurer Jean -Antoine Leclerc de Milfort (1752-1820) was born.
