Thomas Brandis

Thomas Brandis ( born June 23, 1935 in Hamburg ) is a German violinist.

Thomas Brandis began in 1952 at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Hamburg to study violin. In London he was a student of Max Rostal. After he was appointed Leader at the Hamburg Symphony, he was 1962 first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held until 1983. Since 1977 he has been a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. Among his many students was the now well-known Renaud Capuçon itself. Brandis is the winner of the ARD International Music Competition. In 1976 he founded the Brandis Quartet, which has now released a variety of shots. As a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, he has performed with conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Karl Böhm, Keilberth, Georg Solti, Eugen Jochum, Hans Schmidt and Klaus Tennstedt Isserstedt. Since 2002, Thomas Brandis is a professor at the Lübeck Musikhochschule and since 2005 visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Thomas Brandis is a member of the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg.
