Thomas Britton

Thomas Britton (* January 14, 1644, † September 27, 1714 ) was a coal merchant and amateur musician. He played flute and viola da gamba. He also composed smaller pieces for alto flute. However, he was known by at his house in Clerkenwell organized chamber music concerts. Britton built in 1678 to the attic of his house in order, installed a harpsichord and even a small organ. For the inauguration of the royalist publicist Roger L' Estrange gave a concert on the viola da gamba. The weekly concerts, among others played JC Pepusch, John Banister, Philip Hart and Abel Whichelo, maybe George Frideric Handel.
